September 11, 2011, 13th West Lake International Expo Organizing Committee and World Chinese Ballroom Dance Union (WUCBD) co-hosted " China• Hangzhou 1st BDFI World Open Championships & 5th ShiHua Cup World Chinese Standard & Latin Championships" came to a successful conclusion at Hangzhou, Zhejiang province of China, which was supported by the Chinese Culture Promotion Association and Zhejiang International Standard & Latin Art Committee.

The event as one of the official projects of 2011 13th China Hangzhou West Lake World Expo was highly regarded by Hangzhou municipal committee and the municipal government. Guo Chuming, vice secretary of Hangzhou Development and Reform Commission and Zhao Rongfu, secretary & director of Hangzhou Sports Bureau and chief of the 8th National Disabled Games attended the opening ceremony.

Sophie Fang the organizer announced the congratulation letter from Mr. Greg Smith the chairman of BDFI during the opening ceremony.

Totally 43 teams, nearly more than 800 dancers from the United State, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions and mainland took part in the event.

Guangzhou Art School was invited to perform opening shows in the opening ceremony which gained the 2011 World Open Latin formation champion. Meanwhile, the event also invited Italian Latin dancers and the World Chinese Modern Dance copule to make performances during competitions. The event is the largest scale and the highest level international event ever in Zhejiang China.

The event’s senior international judges came from United States, UK, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries, and Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan region and mainland.

The event greatly boosted the development of the local international Standard Dance, and promoted influence of BDFI in domestic. It is the first BDFI championship successfully held in China.
