BDFI Promotes Non-Political Attitude and Freedom to Dance Movement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[London, 17/07/2023] – Since its establishment in 1998, the BDFI has been dedicated to promoting a non-political attitude and has been a steadfast supporter of the Freedom to Dance movement. Originally formed with the aim of fostering unity among troubled domestic nations and enhancing international relations, our organization has made significant strides in achieving these goals.

We have successfully introduced and guided numerous dancers towards a brighter future being members of the WDC (World Dance Council). For many years, our delegates served as diligent and respected members within the WDC.

However, with the recent introduction of changes to the WDC’s articles of association, it became evident that these changes did not align with the ideals of the BDFI. Consequently, we have made the decision to discontinue our membership with the WDC. It is important to note that this does not mean we are entirely opposed to the WDC. As an organization that upholds a non-political attitude and advocates for the Freedom to Dance, we remain open-minded when it comes to international affairs.

After careful consideration, we have applied for affiliate membership with the WDO (World Dance Organization), which has been accepted. We believe that our extensive experience can be of value to a young and progressive organization such as the WDO.

The BDFI is widely recognized for its generous sponsorships to numerous dance couples throughout the years. We proudly sponsor the International Professional Rising Star events, providing our members with 50% extra prize money. Additionally, at the BDF Star Championships, our members also receive 50% extra prize money. Through the support of our sponsors, who have graciously donated to our scholarships, we have established the Benny Tolmeyer Scholarship for Amateur Ballroom and the Bill & Bobbie Irvine Scholarship for Amateur Latin, both offering an award of £500.

The BDFI Countdown Series encompasses competitions worldwide, catering to Rising Star Couples, as well as professional and amateur dancers in Ballroom and Latin styles. The four winning couples from these events receive a prize of £500, presented during the BDFI UK Congress in Bournemouth.

We welcome anyone with an interest in Ballroom Dancing to join the BDFI. Membership is available for £10 per person and can be conveniently completed online at www.bdfi.org.
